Septic System Grease Trap

Can a dog dig up a septic grease trap?
I rent a house that has a septic system and we’ve noticed standing toilet water in the backyard and a HORRIBLE smell. The landlord says that our dog may have dug up the grease trap. There is maybe a 2 inch deep hole in the yard where he dug because his nails needed trimming. Is it possible for him to have dug up the grease trap by digging only 2 inches? And would that cause standing toilet water and the bad smell?????
Your dog shouldn’t have been able to dig anything up. I don’t know what the regulations on septic systems are in your area, but in my area, septic tanks are usually concrete, and the pipes running in and out of the tank are hard plastic and sealed at the tank with concrete. You also have a system of pipes that run after the tank called a leach field; these pipes are all connected and are perforated. My guess would be that either your tank needs cleaned, there is a problem in your leach field, or if you live in an area with a high ground water content you may need more leaching (however, if this is just starting and you’ve lived there for a while, I would lean towards the first two). These would cause the standing sewage water. As far as the smell goes, everything that goes down your drains and toilet, goes into the septic tank so, it doesn’t smell the greatest. Hope I helped.
