How deep underground are the "fingers" coming out the drain field? We want to install a fence and did not know if digging holes for fence posts or fingers could hit if they are deep enough that everything would be fine.
Call a pair of field drainage companies in your area, but varies. When I built my house in Virginia was only 3.4 feet. Here in North Dakota down six feet or more depending on soil type. generally sandy soils than clay deepened. Who do I call with concerns about my septic company?
I hate to even write this because a month ago, I had called a few companies to get the best bang for my buck on a new drain field. I chose a certain company because they offered a 3 year warranty and they also used the new chamber style systems instead of the perforated drain hose with the gravel and the covering. They did a wonderful job. But they haven’t been back to do the follow up I was promised and thus far, I have nothing in my hand that says I have a 3 year warranty. He also said that someone from the county should be by to go over some key points about the drain field and they haven’t been by either. The company is also supposed to give me a starter amount of additives to put down the toilets every so often. That too has not happened. Again, they have been excellent at what they do. I just want to make sure I’m not forgotten and then it turns to finger pointing if something goes wrong in the future. It will be one month come Monday, since the Installation of the system.
If the company you hired is licensed you may be able to file a complaint with the licensing board, and if they are bonded or insured you may be able to stir up some action by hunting down those companies.
Before you begin pursuing those avenues, write a certified letter. Let them know your intent is to continue stirring the pot and potentially creating problems until the work they promised is done.
Bottom line is that you should not pay the contractor off until the work is done – inspected and approved, paperwork in hand, t’s crossed and i’s dotted.
