Aerobic Septic System Smell

Bought a new building with aerobic septic systems …?

We have been living in our home for a little over a month. The first Saturday we were here, we noticed a foul smell in our master bathroom near the toilet. We thought there was something dead in the wall, so the smell is gone, but next weekend, she had become. It starts to smell on Saturday or Sunday, then disappears in a couple of days. We have an aerobic septic system know very little about and wanted to know if it was a septic problem, do not smell it in other parts of the house too? The house and the system only 2 years old

Aerobic septic systems are a relatively new technology compared to anaerobic systems of old age. The new systems I am familiar aerobic with what is called "active" systems [use a fan to blow / air bubble through the wastewater in the tank for air breathing the bacteria "eat" the sewage sludge. A good point of these systems is that the aerobic bacteria do not cause as much, stinky old fetid odor anaerobic systems do. So the smell suggests that the active system, anaerobes may not be working properly, thus becoming "anaerobic" that causes bad odors. But this is not all its problems, since it is another. ALL Plumbing codes for ALL sewerage systems, whether Sewer City, anaerobic and aerobic PLUMBING installation inside the structures are SUPPOSED to be sealed so that any gases or vapors are maintained within pipes and pipes enter the structure. The vents on the roof are required to ensure no buildup of pressure inside the pipe home. To achieve this, structural plumbing piping codes require that all drains have "P-traps under sinks of all drains [, Sinks, tubs, showers, WC and P-traps are constructed within the] toilet. These traps are supposed to keep the little last bit of water that drains through of them, and therefore "cap" of the house piping for gas sewer drains can not rise through the drains in the house. From your description of symptoms, I suspect you have some kind of opening unsealed] pipeline [as [plumbing in the area of the] smell detected, or a P-trap has "gone dry. If a sink or toilet or sink is not used for such a long time that water in your trap P is allowed to evaporate and dry, then water "cap" disappears, and the gases can pass through sewage and to drain. This happens often with floor drains [such as basements, garages, laundry rooms, etc] which is not often that the flow of water in them. I suggest finding relatively "unused" drains, or cracked or broken or unsealed joints plumbing pipe. This is probably the source of odors from escaping. The reason that occurs on weekends is that you all are there and use water more in those two days during the week, and the system of "full" but has time to "catch up" during the week. This —– reminds us of another possible cause of the drain to the septic system can undersizd for family size and amount of use on weekends, and the system backs security during the weekends until you can recover during weekdays less used. It is also possible that the perforated pipe in the drain field is blocked by tree roots, or the design or improper installation. Good luck.

Aerobic Septic System Smell
Correcting aerobic septic system smell?

Its nearly ten years and the air meter is good, what I can do to help the system aerobic smell better? Is there a cheaper chemical that can render help?

Forgive me if this answer runs long, but you need to understand how septic systems work in order to understand the solution to your odor problem There are basically two types of septic systems. Both systems use bacteria to digest organic matter in solid waste. Older systems and probably most common use septic ANAEROBIC [ie, no air] bacteria and creates very odorous gases. These gases are caused by malodorous sulfur compounds as / including hydrogen sulfide. The latest Aerobic septic systems used bacteria against old systems, these bacteria must have air to survive and work. When one of the newest aerobic system starts to produce noxious odors [for usually smell like] rotten eggs is an indication that the air supply to the septic tank system is NOT WORKING. The cause of the failure of air supply system may include: 1. Burn-out or breakdown of air FAN MOTOR, 2. Obstruction of the holes in the air distribution pipe at the bottom of the tank, 3. or any obstruction of the air system from the point of air intake of the air relief holes in distribution pipes. In any case, as suggested other responses, the cause is the air that comes inadequate deposit required PROPER regular maintence. I urge you not to add chemicals to an aerobic system BUT INSTEAD consult your local building inspection recommendations for your area, or better yet, local employment, professional licensed plumber who has experience with the latest technology aerobic septic systems. Good luck.
